What is the Brussels Shakespeare Society?

The Brussels Shakespeare Society aims to help you find your own world of escape and discovery. Since 1975 the Society has performed and promoted plays by Shakespeare and other writers. It performs in English but draws its members and audiences from the wide range of nationalities living in Brussels.

The Society aims to put on two main productions each year; in the summer this is usually an outdoor festival production.

The programme also includes play readings, poetry readings, studio productions, professionally run workshops (on directing, production, stage management, voice work etc.), evenings with famous theatre personalities (Sinead Cusack, Sir Richard Eyre), theatre visits etc.

If you are interested in joining the Society previous experience is not essential. Enthusiasm is readily received, both for acting and working backstage. A quarterly newsletter informs you of activities and of the wider English speaking theatre scene in Brussels. Concessionary benefits for productions are available to members.
