Activities
Formed in 1946 as the second 'European Branch' of the RAF's UK-based Charity, the Royal Air Forces Association Belgian Branch today boasts close to 300 members and devotes most of its efforts to providing welfare support to
those RAFA members in Belgium who find themselves in need and to commemorating the actions of those who served with the Royal Air Force, especially during periods of conflict.
Branch activities are managed by a Committee, for which there are the 'permanent posts' of Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Welfare Officer, Treasurer and Secretary, as well individuals who manage the membership database and publish the 3-monthly Branch Newsletter. In addition to the Committee, the Branch has a President and an Patron.
Principal activities of the Branch include attendance at official and semi-official ceremonies, such as Battle of Britain Services, Remembrance Sunday and wreath-laying at crash sites (there are over 3000 WWII crash-sites in Belgium). Fund-raising includes Tombola at dinners (Post-AGM Dinner in March and Battle of Britain Lunch in September), an annual Golf Competition in June and the Battle of Britain Wings Appeal. |
