British International School of Brussels

The British International School of Brussels is a small, independent, co-educational primary school that enables children to benefit from an enriching and challenging educational programme based on the British National Curriculum. Mutual respect and tolerance are strong themes of the high-quality educational provision for English speaking children aged 2½ to 11, which includes French, music, drama, ICT, swimming and physical education as well as core subjects of literacy, numeracy and science. BISB’s magnificent two-storey villa provides a very pleasant working environment for both staff and children and is very well located with excellent public transport links. It is the closest international school to NATO, the European Commission area around Schuman and the British Embassy. The small class sizes are a very significant attraction to many parents and there is a thriving sense of community, which complements the warm, friendly atmosphere for which the school is renowned. At BISB there is a strong emphasis on educating the whole child and therefore throughout each day there is a carefully planned balance of academic, practical and other enjoyable experiences. Children benefit from out-of-school excursions, carefully planned to complement the overall curriculum and to broaden the enriching educational opportunities even further. These include an annual residential course in the UK for the older children. Needless to say academic standards are very high and excellent examination results are achieved. However the school also places equal emphasis on its wide selection of very popular extra-curricular activities, including instrumental music, ballet, Scottish country dancing, needlework, chess, outdoor games, Karate and French Club.
